Andrew Harris

Basso profundo Andrew Harris is building an impressive career with the Deutsche Opera in Berlin and other prestigious houses. He was an Apprentice Singer in 2012, when he sang in the choruses of Krol Roger, Maometto II, Arabella, Tosca, and Pecheurs de Perles and covered Lamoral in Arabella. He returned to the Santa Fe Opera in 2018 as Edward Teller in our production of Doctor Atomic.  

He has a long history with the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, beginning in 2012 when he was awarded a scholarship. Mr. Harris went on to become a member of that world-class organization’s company. He has sung principal roles in many of their productions, including Wagner’s Ring Cycle (Fasolt, Fafner, Hunding), TannhauserRienziParsifalI vespri sicilianiDon Carlo, and The Magic Flute. He made his debut at La Scala in 2021 in the role of 5th Jew in Salome and returned to sing the role of Mutter/Jimmy in a Kurt Weill double bill produced for RAI television under the baton of Riccardo Chailly.      

Mr. Harris is becoming well known for his portrayal of Fafner from Das Rheingold and Siegfried. He has performed the role numerous times with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, most recently working with Maestro Donald Runnicles. He has also sung the role with the Moscow Philharmonic with Vladimir Jurowski and with the National Theater Mannheim at the Daegu International Opera Festival in Seoul, South Korea with Alexander Soddy.   He will make his premier as Fafner with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in 2024 when they stage Wagner’s Ring Cycle under the baton of Fabio Luisi.

His Italian-language repertoire includes the roles of Timor in Turandot, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Count Ribbing in Un ballo in maschera, Masetto in Don Giovanni, Doctor Grenvil in La traviata, and Don Basilio in The Barber of Seville.  

Andrew is featured as on recordings of Proving Up by Missy Mazzoli on the Pentatone label, as well as Edward II by Andrea Scartazzini on the OEHMS label.
