Meet the Board

Barbara Anderson-Acosta
Barbara Anderson-Acosta has been on the Board of Directors since 2015. She now serves as Vice President of Education and Social Events. She also serves as President-Elect for the Guilds of the Santa Fe Opera, Inc. Besides being a Tour Docent at the Santa Fe Opera since 2004 she also helps with Opera Preview Dinners as a Captain. Barbara has also served as the chair for the Guilds Inc. Opening Night Dinner working with members of all the guilds for the past 4 years. Barbara has lived in Santa Fe since 2001 and is retired from the Los Alamos School System as a teacher of French and Spanish. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and French from the University of Texas at El Paso, a MAT in Secondary Education from New Mexico State University, and a master’s degree in Spanish and French from Kansas State University, Manhattan Kansas.

Janet Butler, Ph.D.
Janet Butler is the Treasurer of the Santa Fe Opera Guild and joined the board in 2023. Dr. Butler moved to Santa Fe in 2019 after retiring from her position as Professor of Accounting and Assistant Department Chair at Texas State University. She holds a CPA certificate (inactive) with the State of Nebraska and received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Dr. Butler earned a Master of Accountancy degree and a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Georgia. Prior to beginning her academic career, Dr. Butler worked as a tax accountant for a large public accounting firm, a cost accountant for a Fortune 500 corporation, and as an accounting supervisor for a non-profit university. She has contributed her time and accounting expertise to a variety of nonprofit organizations, including the Austin Girls’ Choir and the Texas Music Educators Association. 

Rodney Cyr
Rodney Cyr is a member-at-large of the Board and also serves on the Nominating and Communications Committees. Prior to moving to Santa Fe in mid 2004, he lived in San Ramon, California where he worked as a mathematical analyst for Chevron. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering-Mathematics from UC Berkeley and a master’s degree in Engineering from UC Irvine.

Rebecca Jensen
Rebecca has worked primarily in the biosciences and cultural arts and is a recognized leader in non-profit publishing, marketing, and communications. She has served as the Executive Editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Associate Director of Publishing for the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. In Santa Fe, she has served as the Director of Marketing and Communications for Santa Fe Pro Musica, Director of Development for the Santa Fe Botanical Garden, and the Volunteer Liaison for the Santa Fe Opera. Rebecca currently serves as the Vice President of Communications and as such she leads the Communications Committee that oversees the Santa Fe Opera Guild website, the Operagram, Publicity, and Social Media. She is also the Interim Vice President of Membership.

Ifan Payne, Ph.D.
Ifan Payne joined the Santa Fe Opera Guild Board of Directors in 2023. Dr. Payne holds a bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a doctorate in Architectural Psychology from the University of London. He has taught and practiced architecture in universities and practices in the UK, Austria, Germany, and the United States. He first came to Santa Fe in 1974 and has kept a home here since 2004. He serves on the Board of RENESAN in Santa Fe and is a past board member of the Board of Friends of Welsh National Opera and The Vale of Glamorgan Festival. Dr. Payne has conducted research into subjective acoustic experience in concert auditoria has published widely on music, opera, and performance art in both the UK and the United States.

Janet Sanders, Ph.D.
Janet Sanders joined the Board in 2022, now serves as the Recording Secretary, and is a member of the Communications and Education Committees.  She has had a home in Santa Fe since 2011 and has enjoyed attending the Santa Fe Opera since 2007. She earned a bachelor’s in English and a master’s in communication from the University of Maryland, and a Ph.D. in Communication and Human Relations from the University of Kansas. After holding teaching and administrative positions at the University of Kansas, University of Missouri-St. Louis, and Washington University (St. Louis) she founded a firm providing communication strategy and coaching services to Fortune 100 corporations and professional services firms.  Between two stretches as a “road warrior” consultant, Janet served for seven years as VP-Business Planning & Marketing of one of America’s top ten Architecture/Engineering/Construction firms where she directed the firm's strategic and sales planning as well as its communication, marketing and information support units including publications, national advertising, and internet development.  She was the first woman and first non-engineer named to its Board of Directors.

Bernadette Snider, Ph.D.
Bernadette Snider is President of the Santa Fe Opera Guild and also serves as Preview Dinner Chair for the Guilds of the Santa Fe Opera, Inc. She has a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University, a master’s degree in Assessment Psychology and advanced degrees in English Literature. Bernadette’s diverse career includes senior positions in academia, journalism, mental health, and corporate consulting. She founded a consulting company, The Leadership Choice Group, Inc. where for 15 years, she specialized in organizational assessment, executive development, talent strategies, succession planning, crisis management, and working with profit and non-profit boards of directors. She moved to Santa Fe in 2018 to indulge her passion for the arts and continue her work with animal welfare groups to change national and state laws to ensure the humane treatment of animals and criminal prosecution of abusers.

Kathleen L. Wilson, Ed.D.
Kathleen Wilson joined the Board of Directors of the Santa Fe Opera Guild in spring of 2022, now serves as the Chair of the Nominating Committee, and was a presenter for the Guild’s Discover Opera program in June of 2022.  Dr. Wilson holds a master’s degree and doctorate in Vocal Pedagogy from Columbia University and degrees in Musicology and Music Education from the University of Arizona. She founded and directed the opera program at the University of New Hampshire, where she taught for many years, and also taught applied voice and opera workshop at Florida International University until her retirement in January of 2022.  Her publications include CD recordings Sonidos cubanos and Boris Blacher’s Romeo and Juliet, as well as the anthology The Art Song in Latin America: Selected Works by 20th c. Composers. In 2010, her recording of Tania Leon’s “To and Fro,” with the NODUS ensemble, was nominated for a Latin Grammy. Honors and awards include a Senior Scholar Fulbright award to Venezuela, two NEA grants, and the NATS and Voice Foundation’s Van L. Lawrence Award.  She has maintained a home in Santa Fe since 2013.

Judith Workman
Judith Workman joined the Santa Fe Opera Guild Board in October 2023 as an At Large member. She is a graduate of Lesley University in Cambridge, MA where she holds a bachelor’s degree in education. Judith has been involved with nonprofit organizations for many years and was the Chair of the Board for West Edge Opera in the East Bay area of San Francisco. The Company successfully presented four new or neglected operas every summer. Concurrently, she was on the Board of a drama group in Berkeley, CA. She was also Director of a series called Humanities West, which focused on notable events in History and the people that were the nexus of major changes in World History. Judith is a member of the Education Committee and plans to use her prior board experience in member satisfaction activities on behalf of the Santa Fe Opera Guild.
