The Diderot Quartet, named after the French philosopher Denis Diderot (1713–1784), brings a fresh approach to works of the 18th and 19th centuries. They formed in 2012, through their connections at the Oberlin Conservatory and The Juilliard School, where they shared a unique background in historical instruments, historical performance practices, and the string quartet repertoire. They served as Quartet-in-Residence at the Washington National Cathedral, have been featured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Morgan Library in New York, in addition to concerts across the U.S.

Caroline Shaw, composer

Shaw is one of the most awarded composers of her generation, and has received two GRAMMY awards (2019, 2022) and a Pulitzer Prize (2013). In addition to classical music, she writes for film, pop, and TV. NPR’s Tom Huizenga calls Shaw’s string quartets “a refreshing take on a centuries-old genre.”
