Santa Fe Opera Guild - 2024 Annual Luncheon

The Santa Fe Opera Guild is delighted to announce that Director Emeritus of the Apprentice Program and international opera singer, David Holloway, will be our guest speaker at the Annual Luncheon on Tuesday, January 20 at La Fonda on the PlazaTM.

The 2024 Annual Luncheon will take place in the  La Terraza room and Garden Terrace the of La Fonda on the PlazaTM in downtown Santa Fe. La Terraza is always a favorite among guests as an opulent and memorable venue. Elegant French doors open onto beautiful views of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

The menu will include a starter, a choice of two different entrées, coffee, tea, bread and butter, and dessert.

A no-host bar will be available for those wishing to purchase wine, beer, or a cocktail. The price is $55 per person for Guild members and $65 for non-members. Registration and the pre-lunch reception will begin at 11:30 pm, with lunch served at 12:15 pm. The luncheon is scheduled to conclude by 2:00 pm.

Directions and Parking

La Fonda on the PlazaTM  is located at 100 E San Francisco Street. The entrance to the hotel parking garage is on East San Francisco. The garage has limited parking spaces and rates are $15/hour.

Additional parking options include the Water Street Municipal Lot that can be accessed at 100 East Water Street and the Cathedral Lot at 215 Cathedral Place. Payment is made through the pay station which accepts credit cards. Rates are $2/hour.

About David Holloway

Mr. Holloway became the director of the Apprentice Program in 2005 under the leadership of the late Richard Gaddes, the Santa Fe Opera’s General Director from 2000 to 2008. Mr. Holloway was no stranger to the program, having been an apprentice in the 1990’s. In an interview with Mr. Holloway, reporter Loren Bienvenu states, “The baritone’s career in the intervening years serves to illustrate the training program’s success.”

Mr. Holloway has sung with the New York City Opera and major opera companies across the United States including, Boston, Central City, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Fort Worth, Honolulu, Houston, Kansas City, New Orleans, Omaha, San Diego, Santa Fe, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. His repertoire of over seventy-five major roles encompasses Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Figaro and Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Giovanni in Don Giovanni, Onegin in Eugene Onegin, Caesar in Julius Caesar, Scarpia in Tosca, Papa Germont in La Traviata, and Rigoletto in Rigoletto. He sang seven seasons with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, 119 performances; and for ten years, he was leading baritone at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf with over 400 performances. He sang the Toreador in Carmen two seasons at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival, a performance which was filmed and is available on DVD. For eleven years, Mr. Holloway was Head of Voice at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA). He was Director of the Apprentice Singer’s Program at the Santa Fe Opera from 2005 - 2017. Fall 2015 -2017, Mr. Holloway took over as Artistic Director of El Paso Opera, El Paso, Texas.

Mr. Holloway continues to hear new apprentice singers every year, and attends all of the operas every year, as often as he can. Says Holloway, “I still love the art form and I’m happy that I got the opportunity to learn repertoire and languages, Italian, German, and French.”
