Santa Fe Opera Guild - Pelléas et Mélisande: Great Singers of the Past

  • Santa Fe Woman's Club 1616 Old Pecos Trail Santa Fe, NM (map)

Debussy’s only completed opera, Pelléas et Mélisande, received its premiere in Paris in 1902. By that time, the technology for the recording of singers had been in existence for over 40 years and a number of the great singers of the period had been captured on cylinder and on 78 recordings. In this audio-visual presentation we will listen to some of the most important interpreters who sang the roles of Pelléas and Mélisande from 1904 to the present day. We will hear Mary Garden who created the role of Mélisande, Jean Périer who created the role of Pelléas and even Debussy himself at the piano playing an excerpt from his opera.

Please join the Santa Fe Opera Guild on Thursday, May 4 at 6:00 PM for Pelléas et Mélisande: Great Singers of the Past. Check-in will begin at 5:30 PM.

Admission is $10 for members and $20 for non-members. To attend this event, please click on the registration link below. If you have questions, please contact events@santafeoperaguild.org.
