Anthony Leon

Tenor Anthony León’s career is off to a brilliant start. He was an Apprentice Singer with the Santa Fe Opera in 2021 and 2022. Some of you might have been lucky enough to see his rendition of Lensky’s aria from Eugene Onegin in the Apprentice Showcase in 2021. He also sang the role of Ferrando in an Apprentice Scene from Cosi fan tutte in 2022 and covered the role of Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Following his first summer in New Mexico, Mr. León became a Domingo-Colberg-Stein Fellow with the Los Angeles Opera. While a part of that company’s young artist program, he performed in numerous productions, including Lucia di Lammermoor, The Marriage of Figaro, Tosca, and Moses. He made his European debuts at the Aix en Provence and Salzburg Festivals in the summer of 2023 and sang the role of Don Ottavio in LA Opera’s production of Don Giovanni in Fall 2023, sharing the stage with Lucas Meacham in the title role and Isabel Leonard as Donna Elvira.  

Mr. León’s schedule in 2024 includes his debuts with the Dutch National Opera and the Cologne Opera, where he will take on the role of Nadir in Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers. He will sing Beethoven’s Ninth here in Santa Fe at the Lensic on May 19 and will make his role debut as Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte with the Los Angeles Opera in 2025.

Born in Riverside, California to parents from Cuba and Colombia, he earned a Bachelor degree from La Sierra University and a Masters in Music from the New England Conservatory of Music. Accolades include being a winner of the Met Opera’s Laffont Competition (formerly known as the National Council Auditions) in 2023 as well as the Zarzuela competition at Operalia.
