Sylvia D’Eramo

Soprano Sylvia D’Eramo was introduced to Santa Fe Opera audiences in 2018 and 2019 as one of our Apprentice Singers.  She sang the roles of Barena in Jenufa and Cugina in Madama Butterfly as well as appearing in the choruses of Candide, Doctor Atomic, La bohème, and The Thirteenth Child. She returned to our stage in 2022 in the principal role of Micaëla in Carmen

As a second-year member of the Lindeman Young Artists program with the Metropolitan Opera, she appeared in the Met Live in HD broadcast of The Hours singing the roles of Kitty and Vanessa. She performed these alongside two other former Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Singers, Joyce DiDonato and William Burden. (See adjacent Apprentice Watch profiles of Ms. DiDonato and Mr. Burden.) Her Met debut in 2021 was as Countess Ceprano in Rigoletto. The Met recently announced that Ms. D’Eramo will sing the role of Musetta in six performances of La bohème beginning on April 21, 2023.  

In January of 2023, she made her debut in the role of Donna Elvira in North Carolina Opera’s production of Don Giovanni. She also portrayed La bohème’s Mimi in 2021 at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland.

In addition to the Santa Fe Opera’s Apprentice Singer program, Ms. D’Eramo spent 2019-2020 as a Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist with the Los Angeles Opera, covering the role of Mimi in La bohème and singing the role of Fosforo in La morte d’Orfeo. She also participated in the Young Artist Program with Palm Beach Opera and made her debut with Lyric Opera of Kansas City.

A graduate of the Yale School of Music, this Tyler, Texas native has racked up numerous awards including being a national semi-finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, a winner of the Lois Alba Aria Competition, recipient of a Career Grant from the Giulio Gari Foundation, and an encouragement award from the Jensen Foundation.
